Basilica of Santa Maria della Salud

The Basilica of Santa María de la Salud is located in Punta della Dogana (Aduana). It was built in memory of the tragic plague epidemic that struck Venice in 1630. The central ship has an octagonal shape, surrounded by six chapels, crowned by a spectacular dome that appears to be supported by large coils. The exterior stands out for a great ornamental profusion and an interesting game of outgoing and incoming, making the facades advance with respect to the church. It was consecrated in 1687. The space is dominated by the major altar and the presbytery, crowned with a minor dome. There are three works of Tiziano on the roof: Death of Abel, Sacrifice of Abraham and David and Goliath, all violent scenes not accepted at the time. There are also two works of the sacristy: Saint Mark on the throne with the saints Cosme, Damian, Sebastian and Roque of 1512 and Las Bodas de Cana of 1551 of Tintoretto. It opens every day from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and from 3 p.m. to 17.30 p.m. The entrance is free. .
