Sesimbra

(Sesimbra · Setúbal District)

Sesimbra is a fishing village in the Sierra da Arrábida, whose history dates back to the Middle Ages, when it was constituted as an independent population until it became one of the fundamental enclaves of the time of the discoveries as a center of shipbuilding. In recent decades, Sesimbra has experienced great growth due to the construction of large hotel complexes in its surroundings, mainly for the lovers of water activities such as windsurfing or sailing, which in this area are very deep-rooted; despite this influx of tourism, it still retains this particular charm of the old Portuguese fishing villages, accentuated by an unparalleled natural environment: cliffs, long beaches and an exhuberant vegetation thanks to the natural park of the Sierra da Arrábida. How to get there: - By car, crossing the Bridge 25 of April and continuing through the A2 until taking the detour to Sesimbra of the N378. If you go in summer it's best to get out early, because parking in Sesimbra in high season can be complicated. - By bus from the Praça de Espana in Lisbon; those who take the tour to Sesimbra are number 207 and 260 of the company Transportes Sul do Tejo. The first has daily departures almost every hour (the weekends are less frequent) and is the fastest, as it goes straight on the highway.
