Alonissos

(Patitirion · Thessaly)

The island of Alonissos is the most distant of the group of the Esporadas. It is an exceptional place with beautiful beaches and natural landscapes of pine, olive groves and orchards. Small islands spread around it make the panorama even more spectacular. It is the ideal island to enjoy the sea, nature walks and absolute relaxation. The island was populated in the years of prehistory, and its subsequent dominance caused many disputes between Athens and Macedonia. In the second century AD was conquered by the Romans. Then came the Byzantines who built the walls of Chorio Castle. After a stage of Venetian rule, the Turks conquered it in 1538 and in 1830 Alonissos joined Greece.
