Berlin

(Berlin · Berlin)

Berlin is the capital of Germany and, at the same time, one of the 16 federal states (Länder) that make up it. With about 3.5 million inhabitants in the city and more than 4.5 in its metropolitan area, it is also the most populated city in the country. Berlin is famous for its history as the capital of Prussia since medieval times and Germany since its creation as the Empire, as well as its cosmopolitan and tolerant character. They highlight their vibrant nightlife, multiple cafes, bars and discotheques, urban art, museums, palaces and other historical sites. Despite the great damage received during the Second World War and its division during the Cold War, Berlin has been able to renew and grow with great momentum, especially after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. The architecture of the city presents various styles reflecting its extensive history. Thus, one is able to cross through various historical periods a few steps, from the buildings of medieval origin, to the structures of socialist origin in Alexanderplatz and to the ultramoderna structures of glass and metal in Potsdamer Platz.
